Customer Review: In 2002 I purchase "Nude & Beauty Photography" and "Black & White Model Photography", both authored by Bill Lemon. I recently received my copy of Light, Shadow & Skin Tone; I could not be happier! Bill has the ability to break everything down to basics. He clearly illustrates how each image was achieved, including camera settings, lighting, posing, texture and contrast, and even communication with the model. Chancing being Cliche, as a working Divemaster, I can tell you that mastering the basics is vitally important in any endeavor. Customer Review: I agree with a lot of the good already lauded for this little volume. There are some thoughtful tips to guide the photographer to see people in addition to the shot. That said, this book is short on variety. One would think that a career photog like Sammon has a wealth of photo shoots to draw from in order to illustrate the points he makes. Instead the book is burdened with too many similar shots from too few sessions in my opinion.

Customer Review: I'm really sorry to depart from the flock--though they tell me this is a free country--by fessing up that Shekhina is naught but artless, generic, insipid black-and-white photos of female nudes. My precocious five-year-old sons with a quality camera and a stern briefing and debriefing could do work that is at least as--well, workmanlike, I suppose. Leonard Nimoy constantly has to stick his fingers into whatever, but he certainly didn't pull out a plum this time (though arguably a prune). Customer Review: If you have any interest in the photography of Disfarmer or the story of his photos than this is a must-have book. This showcases the prints that Disfarmer made himself while he was alive. These vintage prints show us what he intended with his images. The production is first rate and this is a generous selection of images. Being able to see the old prints is like taking a step back in time to another world. There is another book called "Vintage Prints" which came out around the same time as this and there is no overlap so if you are a collector you should get both of the books. If you were to buy just one of the two I would recommend this one since it is a little larger in size.

Customer Review: When I opened this book, I got chills. The church I atteneded as a child with my grandmother in Swedesboro, NJ is one of the pictures in this book. My mother cried as she looked through this book. It brought back so many memories of her upbringing in South Jersey. Her neighbor in Trenton NJ is even featured in the book as a Civil War Re-enactor whose group still frequently performs in South Jersey. The photos in this book are beautiful and candid. This was truly a "homecoming experience" for my family. Customer Review: After i got other Lemon's book(colorful "nude&glamour photography") i sworn to never get anything from same author. Well i broke this oath, buying this B&W book.
Dont get me wrong - photos in book are , mostly , good. In fact this book is better than colour, one, as it at least has more system to it and got light setups.
Unfortunately - thats about it. Its is not "professional secrets" its "here, i had this model, and took this picture, setting up lights". If you had ever read a single good book on light... I'd skip this book. Its not particularly good on posing either - in fact you can find more posing guides online nowdays, for free, than you will see in this...
