Customer Review: I've planted two seasons from one packet of these seeds. They are colorful, but not as flavorful as one would hope. The maroon-skinned carrots are orange inside and taste the best. The white ones grow hard and fast, and go to seed sooner than the others. The orange ones taste like carrot, but are not very sweet. They will also grow HUGE if you leave them in the ground long enough.

Customer Review: I let seed soak for 3-4 days, used store purchased potting soil and plants grow pretty big.

Customer Review: I mistakenly shook the seeds in. I now have about 40 stems with leaves. There should be some instructions for pruning.

Customer Review: This year I planted my first garden and in addition to the old reliable standbys, I bought seeds for several unusual plants, mostly heirloom tomatoes. This one was pretty good in that over half of the seeds germinated(not the case with my other heirloom tomatoes and peppers), the plants I kept for my own garden are very hardy and healthy, and the tomatoes are an impressive size.
On the negative, instead of 10, I got 9 seeds (minor, since I gave away most of the plants before transplanting), the plants don't have nearly as many fruits as most of my other tomatoes, and I have read that this is a determinate plant, meaning all the fruit comes in at once and then it's done. Also, w...

Customer Review: Politically speaking, 2010 is probably known as the "year of change".
It's also known as the year of "grow your own" - grow what you eat- and people everywhere are trying to do just that.
So, I bought the Square Foot Gardening book and created my own 3x3 sf garden; filled it up with my own Mel's Mix and planted this Arugula in one of my squares.
So far, it's the only one that is continually holding it's own. Through wind and rain and blistering humid heat, it has steadfastedly produced even if only a leaf or two at a time - which is really all I need.
The flavor, and the smell (!) is divine and I enjoy walking right out my front door and sn...

Customer Review: I find myself going back to this book for reference so often while I'm researching plants to consider for planting our garden of around 1860.
I just love to read the discriptions of the plants and where they originated.

Customer Review: This book is excellent for the history it provides. Many times when dealing with heirlooms you do not get a good history of the plant (where it is from, how it was named) This book gives a good background and was fascinating for me. I enjoyed the cultural information that is lacking in the basic HOW TO books.
If you are looking for a HOW-TO book for your region or area, this may not be helpful for you. I loved this book and enjoyed reading it. It is a must for any serious gardner, but again, you have to take into account your geographic area when planting. This book is a good addition to any small garden library.

Customer Review: This book was published in 1994, so I'd really like to see an update, as this book chronicles the motivation for founding Seeds of Change (the seed company) and the company's genesis. The company Seeds of Change has been purchased by M&M/Mars, so although their catalog remains similar, I wonder if they are still holding true to their ideals.
This book has good information on the importance of preserving/reclaiming biodiversity through heirloom and open pollinated crops. We have lost diversity in our diets, and we are paying the price with our health. Chemical monoculture negatively affects the food value of our crops, and Seeds of Change was one of the first commercial enterp...

Customer Review: just purchased an audio CD of this book and found it to be just 3 hours long! Then I saw it was abridged. I typically do not buy abridged books but saw nothing on the product details that said it was cut. Caveat emptor! Wouldn't it be best if the seller had to note that the book was either unabridged or not?
