Customer Review: This year I planted my first garden and in addition to the old reliable standbys, I bought seeds for several unusual plants, mostly heirloom tomatoes. This one was pretty good in that over half of the seeds germinated(not the case with my other heirloom tomatoes and peppers), the plants I kept for my own garden are very hardy and healthy, and the tomatoes are an impressive size.
On the negative, instead of 10, I got 9 seeds (minor, since I gave away most of the plants before transplanting), the plants don't have nearly as many fruits as most of my other tomatoes, and I have read that this is a determinate plant, meaning all the fruit comes in at once and then it's done. Also, w...

Customer Review: I was not sure about this book, but was interested in possibly growing heirloom tomatoes. The Heirloom Tomato turned out to be a surprisingly good book. Outstanding photography of all the varieties, plus detailed information on each tomato, its history, flavor, appearance and use. Information on raising heirlooms, saving seeds, and even breeding is included.Tomatoes have never been so interesting. Definitely a worthwhile investment, even if you don't grow any.

Customer Review: This book got me hooked on vegetable gardening at the age of 62. It is simple, strauight forward, and encouraging. Dr. Male's book introduced me to heirloom tomatoes and the explantions of what to expect and how to solve or avoid problems made me feel comfortable to go forward. I bought the book two years ago, and I still go back to review and look up things that I forgot. The book also has great pictures of the tomatoes that she writes about.

Customer Review: This is a fantastic book if you love tomatoes, especially heirloom tomatoes. It has so much information inside of it. Wines to go with them, salads to make out of them, chutneys & how to make preserves, soups, salsas, bruschettas to make out of them the list goes on. They also have a chapter on "growing and cultivating". I've only had one salad out of this book since I just received it and it was delicious. If you're a tomato lover you probably would like this book of recipes too. Enjoy it!

Customer Review: I have read this book from cover to cover and can't wait for my tomatoes to ripen. This is my first year of growing hierloom tomatoes and "Tomato Festival Cookbook" is and excellent resource with a lot of great recipes. It also includes several lists of various people's favorite heirloom tomato choices. I am sure, some I planted will not be my favorites and will be replace by other varieties mentioned in "The Tomato Festival Cookbook" next year. What a great gift for a tomato lover, cook or tomato gardener. Even better if a person is all three!

Customer Review: I was quite disappointed in this book: it does not grip you, the narrative is not linear, and I quite missed what I was really looking for: the story of the making of a farm. This does not come across well. For a nice account of Greenmarket in NY, read "stronger than dirt", it is MUCH better.
