Customer Review: It looks like a children's book. It even sounds like a children's book. But there's a strong message here and, if you've discovered the controversy at all, you'll know that message is definitely up for interpretation.
Is the story sweet or sad? Is it uplifting or depressing?
Some see it as a metaphor of unconditional love. Others see it as a cautionary tale exposing the selfishness and egocentrism of youth.
Is the tree a mother, a lover, the environment, or a philosophical ideal? Shel Silverstein's not telling, so you'll have to decide for yourself. I think that's the power of this book.

Customer Review: Translation being what it is, this book is very well put together. It has nice links to each book of the Bible and then to each chapter. It took me less than 10 seconds to look up John 3:16.

Customer Review: This book series is very simply written and with some grammatical errors "till" instead on until, beginning sentences with "And". However, it has been fun to read 5 of these books with my 6-7 year old son over the past month. It takes about an hour to read the whole story. He looks forward to the next story, as the story in the books are interweaved and sequentially dependent. He even wanted to peek at the end of the book to see what happened before we started reading! It is that kind of enthusiasm that encourages more reading. Customer Review: Beware this edition - at least until the printing problems are resolved. I bought two copies and each copy duplicated pages 85-116 and did not include pages 117-148. Amazon has not yet provided replacements so I wonder if all its print run of this edition is affected in the same way.

Customer Review: This book has a great message to it. Any one can relate to the idea that overusing resources and polluting the land leave our children with nothing. This was my favorite book growing up, the movie is just as great. It bothers me so much that a book with such a great meaning behind it could be banned by some school districts. Are our kids not allowed to learn that natural resources can be limited or used up because our actions??

Palestine was a desolate wasteland before the Jews came and made it prosper and thrive. All those myths and more I've grown up with all my life and never questioned - never thought to question - until recently.

Customer Review: Saying this book is very good is an understatement. The author makes the characters seem so real and unpretentious. Life for Francie doesn't always have a happy ending which is very relatable if you want a book that captures the essence of life.
