Customer Review: I've planted two seasons from one packet of these seeds. They are colorful, but not as flavorful as one would hope. The maroon-skinned carrots are orange inside and taste the best. The white ones grow hard and fast, and go to seed sooner than the others. The orange ones taste like carrot, but are not very sweet. They will also grow HUGE if you leave them in the ground long enough.

Customer Review: Politically speaking, 2010 is probably known as the "year of change".
It's also known as the year of "grow your own" - grow what you eat- and people everywhere are trying to do just that.
So, I bought the Square Foot Gardening book and created my own 3x3 sf garden; filled it up with my own Mel's Mix and planted this Arugula in one of my squares.
So far, it's the only one that is continually holding it's own. Through wind and rain and blistering humid heat, it has steadfastedly produced even if only a leaf or two at a time - which is really all I need.
The flavor, and the smell (!) is divine and I enjoy walking right out my front door and sn...

Customer Review: The broccoli seeds have sprouted well. I'll try to come back and report if and when I have actual broccoli to harvest.

Customer Review: I ordered these seeds last year, and planted them this spring. They are kale, not broccoli of any kind. The seeds produced a lot of dark leaves that have the typical embossed texture of dinosaur kale. There is no broccoli head or crown of any kind. If you're looking for Romanesco broccoli, this is NOT the place.

Customer Review: I was not sure about this book, but was interested in possibly growing heirloom tomatoes. The Heirloom Tomato turned out to be a surprisingly good book. Outstanding photography of all the varieties, plus detailed information on each tomato, its history, flavor, appearance and use. Information on raising heirlooms, saving seeds, and even breeding is included.Tomatoes have never been so interesting. Definitely a worthwhile investment, even if you don't grow any.

Customer Review: Beautiful book with good information about unsual beans to grow. Some or maybe many of the recipes I would not try but there are still quite a few that sound very good.

Customer Review: This book got me hooked on vegetable gardening at the age of 62. It is simple, strauight forward, and encouraging. Dr. Male's book introduced me to heirloom tomatoes and the explantions of what to expect and how to solve or avoid problems made me feel comfortable to go forward. I bought the book two years ago, and I still go back to review and look up things that I forgot. The book also has great pictures of the tomatoes that she writes about.

Customer Review: This is a fantastic book if you love tomatoes, especially heirloom tomatoes. It has so much information inside of it. Wines to go with them, salads to make out of them, chutneys & how to make preserves, soups, salsas, bruschettas to make out of them the list goes on. They also have a chapter on "growing and cultivating". I've only had one salad out of this book since I just received it and it was delicious. If you're a tomato lover you probably would like this book of recipes too. Enjoy it!

Customer Review: I have read this book from cover to cover and can't wait for my tomatoes to ripen. This is my first year of growing hierloom tomatoes and "Tomato Festival Cookbook" is and excellent resource with a lot of great recipes. It also includes several lists of various people's favorite heirloom tomato choices. I am sure, some I planted will not be my favorites and will be replace by other varieties mentioned in "The Tomato Festival Cookbook" next year. What a great gift for a tomato lover, cook or tomato gardener. Even better if a person is all three!

Customer Review: I was quite disappointed in this book: it does not grip you, the narrative is not linear, and I quite missed what I was really looking for: the story of the making of a farm. This does not come across well. For a nice account of Greenmarket in NY, read "stronger than dirt", it is MUCH better.

Customer Review: I find myself going back to this book for reference so often while I'm researching plants to consider for planting our garden of around 1860.
I just love to read the discriptions of the plants and where they originated.

Customer Review: As an organic gardener and lover of vintage, especially within my garden beds, I found this book most helpful. It gives just the amount of info needed, not too much to read, but crucial info even for the novice gardener. I like that it lists a few companies where one can purchase heirloom seeds and I found that most are still current despite the 1996 copyright date. The photos of the dry beans are especially lovely. Combine this book with Mel Bartholomew's Square Foot Gardening and Patricia Lanza's Lasagna Gardening and you will be set.

Customer Review: When I purchased this book I thought it would help me plant a garden but it was more of a discription of each plant. It was interesting reading but didn't really help much on how to go about gardening.
