Customer Review: What an excellent book! Very well written, a nice personal touch, humor, and most of all, simple to use. I would highly recommend this book to all knife makers, new and experienced. The little tricks and bits of information on how to make knives from scratch, I mean from nothing but ordinary household products, is unique.

Customer Review: Very helpful for the antiquing "debutante" in the overwhelming world of antiques, including tips for negotiating with dealers, what to look for on certain items, even ideas of what one might want to collect. Definitely worthwhile purchase.

Customer Review: Overall, I like the book but I have two complaints:
1) The book glosses over some of the most technical items. Information on adapting steering and rear suspension are minimal. More pictures and diagrams for these would have helped.
2) The editing or print job is terrible, at least in my copy. Pictures are missing or misplaced, irrelevant to the chapter, or have been chopped in half. I wish I had a few pictures referenced but not found.

Customer Review: I have purchased and inherited guns over the years and want to sell them. I'm not a gun dealer and found this book very helpful in determining value. The book is a great supplement of providing education in order to negotiate the best price for my guns.

Customer Review: I received two knife blanks in the mail recently, thinking it would be fun to make handles and craft up a finished knife for myself and my son. I am a decent woodworker with a limited amount of space and "shop" equipment, but thought it would be fun to mess around with a project like this.
I ordered this book, just to get some pointers and proceedures on this project. I was totally impressed with this book as soon as I opened it. It really is much more than I anticipated. A very thorough look at a high-end professional knifemaker's shop and equipment is just part of the package. Every single part of the process, from cutting blanks, to using the right abrasives, to soldering, to...

Customer Review: I've only had the book for a few days, but the first famous custom knife maker I tried to look up was Dietmar Kressler who is not in the book! Plus, there is very little pricing information on custom knives, mostly main-stream pricing is all that is included. Also, there are only a few color pictures.

Customer Review: This book is a huge help in identifying and valuing tools at estate sales, auctions and flea markets. The book has hundreds of big color photos and the sections on condition grading and collecting Stanley tools are essential information that every collector should have. Wish I had known this information earlier. Who knew there were so many different types of planes? Or that some could be worth tens of thousands of dollars? There's no telling how many tools I passed up because I didn't know what they were or what they were worth. Just one informed purchase at a garage sale could pay for this book ten times over.

Customer Review: I've been an Eric Sloane fan for some 20 years. His pen and ink drawings plus his insights into all things Americana is always interesting and pleasing. I own perhaps 2/3 of all his books and intend one day to own everything he's ever written or illustrated. I highly recommend "A Museum of Early American Tools" for anyone interested in early American history.

Customer Review: i bought this book for 1 reason: to learn the terminology and the names of the tools used in woodcut/engraving so that i would be able to shop for said items without finding myself at the mercy of an art store clerk. to that end this book served its purpose. the rest of the information contained here is obvious to the point of being self-explanatory. if you have ever had an art course in elementary school or beyond you are probably familiar with the basic concepts behind relief printmaking and you are not likely to find anything new here. to be fair, the author states that the best way to learn these techniques is to practice and to observe the work of other artists. there are some really ni...
